Desert Storm

20 vs 20 Multiplayer Madness

Desert Storm is my favourite part of Last War. It's an opportunity to work together with 19 other people from your Alliance, in a frantic head to head battle with another alliance. It offers the best rewards of any activity in the game, even if you lose. But, here's the thing...... below I'm going to go through some tactics that are tried and tested, and that are so good they're almost a cheat code. By using these tactics, your team will be able to beat stronger opponents who aren't as well organised.

Let's start with a breakdown of the battle, which comes in two main parts. The first half of the fight centres around control of 8 buildings. 4x hospitals, 2x oil refineries, the science centre and the info centre. All of these buildings score you points when you are in control of them, and some provide other benefits as well. The hospitals periodically give you back troops that have been wounded in battle, and is the only way in game of getting troops back as your base hospitals aren't used. Oil refineries are purely point generators. The info centre increases the point generation rate of all your buildings. The science centre halves the time you have to wait for your next teleport. The second half of the fight brings an extra 3 buildings into play. The Nuclear Silo, the Arsenal, and the Mercenary Factory. The Nuclear Silo is a big points scorer, the Arsenal makes your squads stronger and the Mercenary Factory makes your opponents squads weaker.

With so many buildings to go for, if you're not organised, you can quickly get overwhelmed or have too many people going after the same buildings. This is what a lot of teams end up doing, and it's where we are going to get our advantage.

Tactics

Teams and Targets

The following is based on a full team of 20 players. If we don't have 20, then this needs to be adapted to fit the numbers we do have. We break down into 5 teams of 4, each with a Team Leader who organises their team via Event Chat.

Teams and targets for first part of the battle:

Def1 - 1st Hospital on our side of the map

Def2 - 2nd Hospital on our side of the map

Att1 - 1st Hospital on opponents side of the map

Att2 - 2nd Hospital on opponents side of the map

Assault - Split into two teams of two and take Science and Info Centers

Targets for second part of battle:

Def1 & Def2 - Hold Hospitals and if possible send 1 or 2 members to the Silo / Arsenal / Mercenary

Att1 & Att2 - Hold Hospitals and if possible send 1 or 2 members to the Silo / Arsenal / Mercenary

Assault - Hold the Science Center and send all other members to the Silo.

It may be necessary to drop one of the Hospitals in order to secure 2 of the 3 middle buildings.

It is VITAL that we hold at least 2 hospitals at all times. The more we hold the less troops our opponents will have as the battle progresses.

Event Chat

Communication is the key

We use the Event Chat to co-ordinate our attacks and keep an eye on what's happening. Team Leaders post co-ordinates for the buildings that they want their team to attack. If you're in trouble with a stronger opponent then put it in the chat and if others are availabke they can port over and help. During the second stage of the fight, this is where it is decided who can go where. Without proper communication it becomes a disorganised free for all, which may result in a loss.

Everything Else

All the stuff you didn't know you needed to know

  • Never attack blind - scout first. If they don't have troops on the wall hit them with everything you have. If they have troops on the wall but you're main squad is stronger, hit them with only your main. If they're too strong, call for help or make a tactical retreat
  • Don't put troops on the wall unless needed - it's quick and easy to do in map view. Having troops on the wall all the time is a quick and easy way to get zeroed
  • Never go alone. Safety in numbers
  • Use teleport to your advantage. Let them move first and take up a better position. Plus, we should be holding the Science Center which means we can teleport twice as often as them
  • If you get zeroed, get a substitute on in your place if one is available
  • If they aren't there, they can't take buildings. If there's an opportunity to wipe an opponent then take it
  • You start with maximum troops at highest level - this battle is in isolation from the main game world. Thst's why your base hospitals don't work. You CAN use healing speed ups if you want to, but generally it isn't worth it.
